CHURCH PROFILE

Introduction to Sunrise Baptist Church
Sunrise Baptist Church is a church in the South Hill community near Puyallup, Washington. We are a church whose purpose is to provide an atmosphere of Christian fellowship by taking care of our members and providing small groups for close relationships; to share the love of God to our community; to engage in meaningful and dynamic worship as we seek to encounter God and respond back to Him; to disciple members through teaching, training, equipping and mentoring them in ministry; to provide support, restoration and recovery to those who are in need, maintain effective prayer, and to involve ourselves in missions at home and abroad through prayer, education, tithing, giving and going.

We believe that the Bible is God's perfect Word, true and without error. We believe that man, through voluntary disobedience, was separated from God and eternity. We believe that Jesus Christ is God that came as man to take away the sins of the world. He died on a cross as the final atonement for sin and rose on the third day. We believe that salvation cannot be earned but can only be obtained through God's gift of righteousness through Christ's death and resurrection.

Sunrise Baptist Church is associated with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).
Sunrise Baptist Church is also known as “Sunrise Church” in its audio-visual and literature.

Vision Statement
"LOVE GOD. LOVE OTHERS. LIVE THE LIFE GOD CALLS US TO LIVE."
The vision statement at Sunrise is very important to us. It's a message that is the foundation for our church and ministries. It intertwines with the "1-1-1" Plan: one worship service, one small group and one ministry.
Love God and connect with Him through one worship service.
Love others with fellowship and studying the Bible together.
Live the life God calls you to live by serving the Lord and engaging in ministry.
We believe the "1-1-1" Plan together with the vision statement is part of a balanced walk with Christ and is essential to spiritual growth.

Ministries
We believe that ministry is vital in growing a relationship with Christ and is a part of the "1-1-1" Plan. We offer Sunday school classes for all ages. Men of the church meet on a regular basis for prayer and devotion. Women of the church meet for weekly bible study, and regularly for events. Awana Clubs meet Wednesday evenings during the school year. We also have small groups during the week for Bible Study. We participate with the Southern Baptist disaster relief program.

Missions
Sunrise Baptist Church strongly supports the Cooperative Program (CP), which is the Southern Baptists’ unified plan of giving. Sunrise Baptist gives 8 percent of our undesignated receipts in support of the Northwest Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention missions and ministries. Sunrise Baptist Church also supports local missions with 2 percent of our undesignated receipts. In addition, we participate in the annual Lottie Moon offering for international mission, Annie Armstrong offerings for North American missions, and the Northwest Impact offering for Northwest missions. We have also supported youth for short-term mission trips.

Church Staff and Organization
Sunrise Baptist Church is governed by the body of believers who are members of the church and is led by a Senior Pastor and a part-time Associate Pastor. Support staff include a secretary, a maintenance person, and a part-time treasurer. The church membership meets at least quarterly to discuss and make decisions about the business of the church.

Deacons are servants of the church. They serve with the pastoral staff in performing pastoral ministries tasks and advise the pastors when called upon.

Church committees and ministries carry out administrative functions and the ministries of the church. The committee, chairs, and ministry leaders meet monthly to discuss committee and ministry activities.

Church Body
Weekly worship attendance is currently just over 100 on Sunday mornings. In addition, there continues to be some attendees who worship with us online. Most families live in the Puyallup and surrounding area. The church body has people with a wide variety of occupational, educational, and denominational backgrounds. Our congregation leans toward an older demographic with a few younger families as members. We recognize the need and desire to attract more younger families.

Facilities
The church building sits on a total of five acres. The original building was completed in 1980 with a sanctuary which seats 175, two offices, a library, a small prayer room, a coffee house, a small kitchen, and two other conference rooms. In the late 1990s, a large section was added to the original building which consists of a lobby, the pastor’s and secretary’s offices, a two-floor children's wing with a total of nine rooms, a large kitchen, and a gym which also provides space for events for about 120 people. The property includes a large grassy area near the intersection of 122nd Street and Shaw Road, a recently re-paved parking lot with new lighting, and a small picnic and grill area behind the church building.

History
Sunrise Baptist Church was started by a group of Southern Baptists who had been members and workers in South Hill Baptist Church. The first meeting was held on April 30, 1978, with an attendance of 51 in worship service. They committed themselves to mission giving through the Southern Baptist Cooperative Program, the Northwest Baptist Convention, and the Puget Sound Baptist Association. The first full-time pastor started on January 1, 1979.
